Chairman’s Message: Planning for a VERY Active Summer (In a Few Ways!)

by CJP Chairman Blake Curd

‘In like a lion and out like a lamb’ came a little late this spring! April provided us with an impressive display of mother nature’s might through the midsection of the USA. Eppley Airfield in Omaha, NE took quite a shot. Hopefully you and yours have kept out of harm’s way.

This weather is a good reminder to dust off your radar skills and transition from winter weather flying into the challenges that summer and convective activity present us as we get busy this spring and think about summer destinations. Think ahead about hangars if your schedule and destination allow to keep the elements at arm’s length from your rig!

Your CJP Board of Directors just convened in ICT at the end of April. A big thank you to FlightSafety International for hosting us! The remodel looks fantastic and is a welcome improvement for your clients.

The board had a productive meeting and had the opportunity to spend an evening with Textron leaders. Thank you, Ron Draper, and your team, for spending your evening with us. Textron also has some new space. They have done extensive work expanding their parts capability which should lead to an improved customer experience and delivery time when the need arises. The new customer center is also fantastic.

The CJP Safety and Education Foundation’s Safety Committee also met during this time in Wichita and is well underway planning a packed agenda for the annual convention in Colorado Springs at the fabulous Broadmoor. The CJP Safety Committee and many CJP board members got to spend some time in the simulator seeing the Safe to Land(sm) profiles in action. I encourage you to take this training if you have not yet had the chance. It will improve your landing skills and decision making for certain.

Interaction

If your schedule allows, please join us June 11-14 in Sonoma, CA for the regional event at the Healdsburg Inn. We know the notice is short and we apologize for the tight timeframe. We had originally planned an event in Canada’s wine region but could not get the logistics to work out. This required a quick change to Sonoma and an unfortunate delay. We will do better in the future getting you the advance notice you need to plan ahead.

If you are able to, please join members Peter Nisbet and Antonie Leblond and CJP Director Stephen Elop at the Museum of Flight on June 20, 2024. There will be a member dinner at Oshkosh on July 23, 2024.

Registration for the Annual Convention at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs will be open soon. This event is sure to sell out. Register early!

Please check the “Events” page for updates, information and registrations.

The CJP Foundation and Safety Committee continue their industry leading work on programs, including CJP FOQA(sm), Safe to Land(sm), and What Good Looks Like videos.

We continue the partnership with NetJets and their top tier safety efforts. The next gen of Safe to Land(sm) is underway and will build on the solid foundation that had been laid.

CJP is tirelessly working to improve and expand our member’s benefits. Please remember to take advantage of these member benefits when the need arises! CJP is actively working with Textron to streamline the process for using the $500.00 voucher that comes with your subscription. Details will follow with improvements.

Please check the Benefits section of the CJP website for details.

Here’s hoping that our contrails cross this summer!
