I was flying a [Citation] Mustang when Cessna called and said they had a new “white tail” CJ2+ available, [but] the interior and paint were already finished, and could not be changed.

My wife and I met when we were in medical school at Vanderbilt University. When we went to Wichita to see the CJ2+, we found it painted with black and gold stripes… Vandy’s colors! Of course, I convinced Amy this was a sign from God.

I looked up tail numbers hoping to get N4VU but that was already taken. So, what is one better than being for Vanderbilt University? Being “5” Vanderbilt University, of course!

Thus the tail… N5VU!

Do you have an interesting story about how you selected your ‘N’ number? Share your “tails” with CJP and you may be featured in an upcoming issue of Flight Levels! Please send a photograph highlighting your N-number and a brief explanation to huggy@citationjetpilots.com.
