Chairman’s Message: Preparing for a More Active Second Half of 2021!

by CJP Chair Randy Broiles

Randy Broiles 1CJP Friends & Colleagues,

Several brief, but significant updates for you since my last update from the board:

Our CEO

Sincere thanks to those CJP members and partners who provided potential CEO candidates for the search committee & board to consider to succeed Andrew. We had over a dozen credible candidates that resulted in six strong Zoom interviews. We’re thrilled that Trent Corcia with FlightSafety International has accepted the CJP position.

Trent will begin on June 1, which allows a full month of thoughtful transition and handover work with Andrew. Those members who are planning to join our Santa Fe, NM Regional Event from June 16-19 will see Andrew as well as Trent. You’ll also learn more about Trent as well as enjoy Andrew’s closing reflections in his regular CEO Column within this edition of Flight Levels.

Andrew deserves much credit for the many improvements that CJP members and partners have enjoyed since he joined us five years ago. There’s no doubt that we’ll continue to work with Andrew on weighty GA matters in his new role with the NBAA. In the meantime, you can look forward to Trent continuing to work key CJP priorities including safety, advocacy, interactions and philanthropy. You can also expect him to build and honor deep, respectful relationships that are so important in our organization.

Safety

Owner members can expect to receive an important go-around survey soon that will be used to help minimize runway excursions. The survey is unique, based on approach scenarios and human decision making, designed to identify our personal go-around triggers. These triggers may be very different than the stabilized approach indicators that we monitor. The Presage Group Inc, is based near Toronto and specializes in behavioral science. They have worked with several scheduled air carriers using two crew cockpits with much success. Presage will also mine our confidential survey data for key learnings from our large, single pilot database which will be shared with members and our training organizations as we continue to work to eliminate runway excursions.

CJ3-Cessna Publicity Shot

Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) progress continues as we add more CJP aircraft each month to the beta test for tracking aircraft specific flight data. Expect to see a FOQA deep dive update directly from Charlie in the next edition of CJP’s Right Seat safety publication.

Advocacy

Good news! Textron Aviation & Garmin have released the v4.8 software update for our G3000 cockpits.  Also, Collins Aerospace now holds FAA approval for the Fusion cockpit in the CJ2+ and is working to obtain the same for the CJ1+.

Interactions

Mark your calendars! Several of us visited our 2021 Annual Convention site near Palm Springs a few weeks ago. According to Governor Newsom, California is expected to be back to “business-as-usual” by June 15. The Indian Wells Marriott Resort and the Desert Jet FBO at KTRM will be ready to welcome us on Oct 20-24, 2021. Expect a few special aviation and entertainment surprises as well! (As an aside, the Santa Fe Regional Event sold out in 4 days! CJP members are clearly eager to reconnect with each other.)

Much more to come…
