From January 14-17, approximately 60 CJP Members traveled to the snowswept slopes of Park City, Utah for CJP’s first Regional Event of 2016. In the tradition of all CJP events, including the association’s annual convention, the Park City gathering offered a diverse and satisfying mix of valuable information, fantastic entertainment, and – above all – Member camaraderie.
Hosted by Park City resident and Citation owner Chuck Brady, the event got underway Thursday evening with a reception at the St. Regis Deer Valley. The next morning, former astronaut (and often-requested CJP speaker) Charlie Precourt drew on his NASA experience to discuss safety with attendees.
“Charlie gave a really great presentation about identifying the signs of complacency, and the normalization of deviance, as related to the 2003 loss of the space shuttle Columbia,” said CJP Director Cyrus Sigari. “It was extremely powerful to hear him relate those lessons to how we frequently come to accept deviances of our own as aviators.”
Friday afternoon, CJP Members took to the slopes, where they were greeted by an impressive snowpack and well-groomed ski runs and trails. Several attendees also participated in the second-annual CJP Dual Slalom race, with race winners Mark Peterson (with a time of 18.8s) and Rebekah Bhansali (21.77s) setting a high bar for future competitions. The day was capped off with dinner, which also included a birthday celebration for CJP Board member Brian Rohloff, VP of Customer Support at Textron Aviation.
On Saturday, Textron Aviation’s Rob Mast offered information about Cessna’s ProAdvantage maintenance programs for the full range of Citation jets. The afternoon brought more skiing, followed by a fireside dinner at the Empire Canyon Lodge that also featured a brief presentation by CJP Member and Park City chairman Lessing Stern.
The Park City event provided an impressive start to CJP’s roster of regional events for 2016, with the next event scheduled in Memphis, TN from April 15-17. More information about that gathering – which will include exclusive, private tours of FedEx’s World Hub, the Graceland mansion, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, as well as presentations by CFII Neil Singer and Col. Rich Graham, former SR-71 pilot and author of “SR-71 Revealed, The Inside Story” – are available here.
