Following last year’s extremely successful gathering at West Virginia’s Greenbrier Resort, for 2015 CJP trades Appalachian Country for the Rocky Mountains of the western U.S. for the 2015 CJP Annual Convention. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding this year’s event, which will take place Sept. 9-13 in Colorado Springs, CO.
Where Are We Going?
Located near the southern edge of the Rockies, Colorado Springs is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and has been described as the gateway to the West. The city began as a small mining town, but now counts itself as one of the top destinations in the U.S. for vacations and conferences due to its picturesque mountain backdrop, 300 days of sunshine and friendly locals. From the top of Pikes Peak to upscale shopping, Colorado Springs offers an abundance of natural beauty as well as a variety of attractions, art galleries and activities for guests of all ages.
Where Are We Staying?
Located on the city’s western edge at the foothills of the Rockies, The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs is the longest-running consecutive winner of both the AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star awards. Since first opening in 1918, The Broadmoor has offered guests a unique way to experience the beauty of the American West.
In addition to offering a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star day spa, The Broadmoor is also home to a variety of restaurants (including The Penrose Room, Colorado’s only Five-Star, Five-Diamond restaurant), 54 holes of championship golf, six tennis courts, indoor/outdoor pools, distinctive retail shops, specialty tours, activities and programs for guests of all ages and interests.
CJP Members should remember that Colorado Springs is located at more than 6,000 feet above sea level, so be sure to plan your activities in consideration of the higher altitude.
Where Do I Fly To?
Colorado Springs Airport (KCOS) is less than 20 minutes from The Broadmoor, with Colorado jetCenter selected as this year’s host FBO. In addition to offering CJP Members a very special price for Jet-A, Colorado jetCenter will also waive landing, ramp, and overnight fees for CJP Members. The FBO will also provide discounts on hangars for CJP Members with advance notice, so anyone interested should call (719) 591-2288 now!
Members should plan to arrive at The Broadmoor no later than Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. if you wish to make all the seminars and events. Transportation from the FBO to the resort will be provided compliments of CJP on Tuesday & Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Sunday from The Broadmoor to jetCenter from 6:30am to 12:00pm.
What Presentations May I Look Forward to?
CJP strives to balance valuable information with interesting subjects at its Conventions, and this year’s offerings will be no exception. Joining flight instructor Neil Singer and aviation weather expert Dr. David Strahle, who also gave presentations at CJP 2014, will be Jens Hennig, vice president of Operations for the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and point person on ATC modernization efforts, who will provide an update on deployment of automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) technology.
Other featured presenters include Christopher Hart (above), chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB); Dann Runik, executive director for advanced training programs at FlightSafety; Doreen Welsh, a flight attendant onboard the fateful January 15, 2009 ditching of US Airways Flight 1549 in New York’s Hudson River; and author Jeff Wise, whose presentation will examine the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 in 2014.
Who’s Our Keynote Speaker?
CJP is honored to welcome pioneering businesswoman and space traveler Anousheh Ansari as our keynote speaker at CJP 2015.
On September 18, 2006, Ansari captured headlines around the world as the first female private space explorer, and earned a place in history as the fourth private explorer to visit space and the first astronaut of Iranian descent. Her keynote address will take place Friday, Sept. 11.
What Are Some Other Events?
Cessna will once again host a dinner party for attendees on Thursday, Sept. 11. The venue will be announced soon.
Also back by popular demand is the 2-hour Companion Ground School, taught by jetAVIVA CEO Cyrus Sigari, and jetAVIVA instructor pilots will offer the Companion Flying Training Course. Both courses are designed to enable Companions to be more comfortable in the flying environment, refresh the principles of the pinch hitter course, and increase Companion safety and knowledge of their model aircraft.
As in years past, the 2015 CJP Convention will also feature a variety of airframe and avionics roundtable discussions, as well as more than 40 vendor displays. The 2015 CJP Auction will feature many desirable items for bid, with proceeds utilized to support the many activities and programs that meet the goals and expectations of the CJP Mission and Vision.
A reception will also be held Sept. 12 to honor the induction of Dr. Sam Williams, founder of turbine engine manufacturer Williams International, into the CJP Hall of Honor.
