Annual Event Coming to West Virginia’s Greenbrier Resort Sept. 17-20

Members of the Citation Jet Pilots community and others with an appreciation for Cessna’s finest aircraft are encouraged to attend the upcoming 2014 CJP Association Convention, coming to The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia from September 17-20.

“The Convention provides the valuable opportunity for seasoned veterans and first-time operators alike to sit down, compare notes, and talk with the best sources of real information about the Citation line – those who are actually operating the airplane,” said CJP Secretary David Miller, who with organization President Mark Aloe is overseeing the organization of this year’s Convention.

Over four days, attendees will be able to enjoy the many amenities throughout the Greenbrier’s 10,000 acres, including five championship golf courses. The resort also serves an historic role as the location of the original Cold War “bunker” for senior U.S government officials. Convenient fly-in access is available at Greenbrier Valley Airport (KLWB) in nearby Lewisburg, a short 15-minute drive from the resort and offering a wide 7,000 foot runway.

Of course, a range of notable and distinguished speakers and presenters is a hallmark of all CJP Conventions, and this year’s lineup continues that tradition. Throughout the Convention, a host of safety sessions and featured presentations will be conducted by such industry notables as AOPA Foundation President Bruce Landsberg; ATK Aerospace Group vice-president and four-time space shuttle astronaut Charlie Precourt; and Dr. Quay Snyder, President and CEO of Aviation Medicine Advisory Service (AMAS). The event’s keynote address will be presented by Textron Chairman, President and CEO Scott C. Donnelly.

One new offering at this year’s Convention is a dual-track educational program on Saturday, Sept. 20. Similar to information sessions held at larger events such as the annual NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition, attendees may select the track that best suits their level of operating experience and expertise. “The challenge is to offer content that appeals to very different audiences,” Miller explained. “Older and more experienced operators may have questions regarding medical certification issues, for example, that likely don’t apply to younger pilots. Conversely, new operators will have questions that need answers, but may not pertain to an operator who has flown for 50 years.”

Another new event at this year’s Convention is “Show Me Your Citation,” an opportunity for those seeking information about a Citation purchase to check out aircraft operated by CJP members. Approximately six selected Citation owners will be making their aircraft available for display and member questions, complimenting the static display of new aircraft from Cessna Aircraft Company.

“Although our organization offers tremendous educational and information resources, one aspect of membership that I feel members don’t take full advantage of is to utilize CJP when they are in the market to buy an aircraft,” Miller said. “The best source of real information is someone who’s actually operating the airplane, and before someone writes a multi-million dollar check, it helps to sit down with actual operators to discuss key questions they may have.”

In order to encourage Members who may be considering attending their first CJP Convention, Miller was also instrumental in developing a series of eight short and humorous video presentations featuring CJP board members discussing these and other Convention highlights, as well as chosen amenities at the Greenbrier. You may watch these videos on CJP’s YouTube channel.

“We’ve found that once you attend one of these events, you attend all of them,” he concluded. “That makes it incumbent upon those planning the Convention to make it bigger and better every year.”
