Park City Hosts Fantastic Kickoff CJP Regional Event for 2022
CJP members and partners gathered from March 29-April 1 at the magnificent, five-star Hotel St. Regis Deer Valley in Park City, UT for CJP’s Winter 2022 Regional Event. Offering breathtaking views and ‘ski-in, ski-out’ access, the hotel provided a fitting backdrop for two days of education, fun and friendship, all in the heart of the Deer Valley ski slopes and a sprawling cattle ranch.
Attendees flew into Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and trusted their Citations to the care of TAC Air, which in conjunction with Platinum Plus Sponsor Textron Aviation provided hangar accommodations, plus the chance to view a mockup of the Textron Aviation-sponsored US Ski & Snowboard team plane, a Citation M2 Gen2.
From there, CJP members enjoyed a Tuesday evening welcome reception at the Deer Crest Club.
Wednesday’s activities began with a roster of CJP Platinum Partners Updates, starting with an overview by Textron Aviation CEO Ron Draper, who attended the gathering with Textron Chairman, President and CEO Scott Donnelly. Mike Croitoru then joined attendees via Zoom for an update from FlightSafety International, and Jacob Klinginsmith shared the latest news from Tamarack Aerospace.
Attendees then split into separate avionics presentations by Steve Adolphs and William Elliott from Collins Aerospace and Garmin’s Joey Ferreyra and Chad Meadows.
After lunch (below), it was time to hit the slopes for a day of skiing fun, followed by dinner at River Bottoms Ranch. Among those who enjoyed the meal, sponsored by Textron Aviation, was 2022 Olympic Freestyle Skiing Gold Medalist Justin Schoenefeld.
CJP events always include a focus on safe operating practices, and Thursday’s activities began with CJP Safety Committee Chairman Charlie Precourt’s presentation on, “Lessons from Flying to Cusco, Peru” that examined flying a precision approach under atypical conditions. “There’s a 3.5 degree glidepath to the runway out at 18,000 feet, and nowhere on the approach chart is the distance to the runway listed,” he said. “If you don’t sit down and determine your descent rate beforehand, you could be in a world of hurt.”
Thursday afternoon, Schoenefeld joined several CJP members back on the slopes for the 2022 CJP Deer Valley Dual Giant Slalom Challenge. In the men’s competition, Textron Aviation’s Steve Sperley won the bronze medal, Jason Talley took home silver and Endre Holen won the gold. Women’s competition winners were Textron Aviation’s Kriya Shortt (bronze), Michelle Olsta (silver) and Morlan Whelan (gold.)
The day’s activities were capped with an evening meal at the alpine-inspired Fireside Dining, which also provided a fitting endnote to the first CJP regional event of 2022. Members then prepared to depart for home Friday.
