CJP Regional Event Recap: Park City, Utah
by Cheryl Hardy
With snow on the ground and the slopes, Park City recently welcomed CJP members for a great weekend of skiing, snowmobiling and camaraderie.
Our host resort was the Stein Eriksen Lodge. Noted as Utah’s finest Forbes five-star hotel, guests experience the best ski-in/ski-out access, award-winning dining, indulgent treatments at Utah’s only five-star spa, and entertaining après, making Stein Eriksen Lodge a premier year-round resort.
The Stein Eriksen Lodge is an authentic European ski lodge nestled in the alpine beauty of Park City and surrounded by spectacular views of Deer Valley Resort. Named after Norwegian Olympic Gold Medal skier, Stein Eriksen, the lodge was awarded “World’s Best Ski Hotel” by World Ski Awards thanks to its impeccable service, world-renowned skiing and access to year-round outdoor recreation.
We began both Friday and Saturday with great reviews of the CJP standard operating practices (SOPs) documents which debuted at the 2018 CJP Convention. Charlie Precourt, CJP safety committee chairman, presented and led the two engaging programs. Thank you, Charlie, for taking time to be with us.
CJP members then gathered on the slopes and were provided ski instructors of all different levels to prepare them for two days of fun skiing and a chance to win a medal in a “CJP Dual Slalom” ski race. Special thanks to Pete DeSoto and Shardel Riley for hosting attendees for an après-ski at their condo near the lodge. What a great gathering before heading into Park City for dinner.
And for those who did not ski, they enjoyed a snowmobile excursion with beautiful scenic views of the Wasatch Mountains. With over 7,000 acres of land and trails, it was a fun and exciting outing.
On the last evening, we enjoyed ‘fireside dining’ at the Empire Canyon Lodge. The fireside dining featured courses served from stone fireplaces throughout the restaurant. We enjoyed great food, good wine, fun stories and made new friendships among new members and first-time attendees. We then awarded our CJP Dual Slalom winners: first place for the ladies was Nancy Auth, and for the men, Donald Thompson. Congratulations.
A big thanks to all of you who attended and made this such a great time for everyone! Thanks also to Kelly Drews and Tim White of JetAviva for coordinating this event for us. Our next Regional event will be held June 21-24, 2019 at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI.
