CJP last checked in with Yann Bosch, the recipient of the inaugural Bob Hoover Presidential Scholarship, last May. At that time, Yann was looking forward to starting ground school in August, and then beginning his flying career with Boston, MA-based commuter airline Cape Air. Plans often change when working in aviation, though… and a few months later, Yann was presented with an opportunity he simply couldn’t pass by.

Yann's first day as a first officer with Tradewinds Aviation.

Yann’s first day with Tradewinds Aviation.

“On the very last day of ground school, a classmate told me that he had an interview lined up with [private charter operator] Tradewind Aviation,” he explained. “As soon as I heard about it, I knew that’s where I wanted to be.”

Tradewind operates in many of the same regions as Cape Air – primarily throughout the Northeastern U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean – but it caters primarily to an executive clientele.

Noting that he had not yet started flying with Cape Air (“they didn’t spend any money on my training”) Yann submitted an application with Tradewind that same evening, and he received a call back three days later for an interview.

Soon, Yann was scheduled to join Tradewind’s October training class, and not long after he was flying right seat in the Pilatus PC-12 between San Juan, Puerto Rico and St. Barth’s. “That’s one of the trickier approaches in the world,” he proudly noted. “A 10-degree glidepath down to a 2,100-foot runway. It’s a lot of fun.”

Yann also appreciates Tradewinds’ focus on providing a high level of client service to its passengers. “CJP really opened by eyes to the opportunities available in corporate aviation,” he added. “This is my first step towards that. I’m very happy with the decisions I’ve made that led me here.

“I decided to give it a shot, and I’m glad I did,” Yann added. “I’m flying a much more modern aircraft (Cape Air primarily operates Cessna 402 piston twins) and the quality of life is a lot better so far. It’s also good to know that we have three CJ3s in the fleet should I choose to upgrade.”

Yann received the inaugural Bob Hoover Presidential Scholarship, presented by CJP and the Bob Hoover Legacy Foundation, in 2013.
