By CJP Chairman Russell Boyd

CJP-Russell Boyd-0116Last Spring in this column, I ruminated that many great airplanes begin as a ‘clean sheet’ that – over the course of thousands of hours of technical work, discussions, and refinement – result in a finished, flying aircraft. Even after such an extensive process, however, further tweaks are often made to the design after it has been tested under real world conditions resulting in an even better aircraft.

This process has led to the wonderful Citation jets we fly and it’s also a fitting analogy to describe the growth and evolution of CJP. Without question, the past year of progress and reorganization has been a bit bumpy at times, as “test flights” often are, but I think it’s apparent now that CJP has evolved accordingly into a better and stronger organization, with a renewed sense of purpose.

Andrew Broom is settling in nicely to his role as Executive Director and leading this reinvigorated spirit as our Pilot-in-Command. Andrew’s energy and knowledge are key aspects of a refocused effort by CJP to become an even stronger advocate on behalf of your interests as Citation pilots, and CJP members.

This new year promises to bring a host of exciting new events, benefits, and initiatives for our membership. In fact, by the time you read this I hope you will have experienced one of those changes: the launch of an entirely new, and significantly improved, CJP website.

I’ll add my voice to yours in thanking CJP Director Jason Talley and his team for all their hard work in making this often-requested improvement a tangible reality that not only offers direct benefits to CJP members, but also establishes a strong IT infrastructure to support our current and future needs as an organization. I’m sure Jason and his team appreciate your respectful patience and input as we work through this important technical transition.

I’m also pleased to report that we’ve already made significant progress on preparations for a fantastic convention later this year at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, taking place Oct. 4-7, 2017. Our 2016 gathering in New Orleans is certainly a tough act to follow but we will! We already have some exciting events, speakers, and programs on the docket. I will be sharing sneak peeks with you in the coming months but put Arizona on your calendar now. You are not going to want to miss this one.

We are working with leaders in the industry to bring next level safety and member advocacy to you as a Citation Jet Pilot. Look for significant announcements in this arena in the coming months. In addition, we continue our work to strengthen our relationships with OEM Partners including Textron Aviation, Garmin, Rockwell Collins, and many others. I expect CJP’s ongoing work in this area to yield even greater benefits going forward to enhance the value proposition of owning and operating a Citation Jet.

As we look to 2017, your CJP Board of Directors will continue to enhance and develop not only the value proposition offered by CJP, but also our relationships with you as members of this impressive, and ever-evolving, organization.
