David Gasmire - Cue Card In-Flight

After having several flights to apply the STL cue card, I have found it very reassuring as I measure and calculate the stability of my approaches. During IMC and in a controlled environment the altitude and speed gates become very routine, as they should be. I have found great value in using the Cue Card in the visual environment and uncontrolled airport operations where there are frequent disturbances by other aircraft. Most importantly, in my view, is making the verbal callouts for emphasis. It challenges my thinking as to if I really am stable for that portion of the approach. Additionally, I use the STL Cue Card as part of my enroute and pre descent preparations which primes my mental pump of where I am likely to cross these gates in the approach I will be flying. This is very valuable and a lot of analysis of the approach dynamics and risks has gone into developing this tool. I am glad to have it in my cockpit on each flight.
